Chewie asked his Aunt Deidre if she would help him make Scotcheroos so he could take them to school for a recipe sharing activity in one of his classes tomorrow. The teachers plan to compile the recipes in a book. The kids can take their favorite holiday recipe to share. This is Chewie's all time, anytime favorite desert or treat. I picked up the ingredients and had him take them home yesterday. It did not dawn on me until he came over with his mother to make the molded candy treats.....that they do not have a microwave. No problem, we just dumped all of Mr Wonderful's accumulation of ??? papers on the microwave, dusted it off, and hauled it over to Kristi and Chewie's for the Scotcheroo bake off. Here is the famous recipe that Deidre got from her Aunt Sheila in North Dakota when she about Chewie's same age.
Scotcheroos aka a Nelsen Favorite Treat
Ingredients:
One bag small marshmallows
7 cups rice crispies cereal
1 cup peanut butter
1 cup light corn (karo) syrup
1 bag chocolate chips
1 bag butterscotch chips
Directions:
Microwave one bag of marshmallows and one cup karo syrup for two minutes. Stire in 7 cups rice crispies adn 1 cup peanut butter. Make sure it is stirred really well; it will start to look peanut-buttery instead of marshmallow-y. Put it in a buttered pan. Next, microwave the chocolate adn scotch chips for two minutes, stir, and pour evenly on top of crispie mixture.
Love, Deidre :)

Yummy! Wow! Look at Matt! He is so TALL!
ReplyDeleteYUM!!! I LOVE scotcheroos! Klay doesn't like them (Who doesn't like them!?!?!?) So I hardly ever make them but they are so delicious! Sounds like there's been a lot of treat making going on there. We're doing caramel corn to go with our little nieghbor gifts so I've been baking caramel corn for 2 days straight with more to go. Gotta love the holiday treat giving!
